Job Description

The Institute of Development Studies at Fudan University is recruiting one full-time postdoctoral researcher, open to both domestic and international candidates, to conduct research in "National Development Dynamics – Global Health and Sustainable Development."

I. Overview of Research

Established in 1993, the Fudan Development Research Institute stands as a leading university think tank in China. With an interdisciplinary, strategic, and international approach, it focuses on critical areas such as regional development, ecological governance, industrial economy, and technological innovation.

The "National Development Dynamics" initiative, launched in 2019, aims to uncover universal laws of national development through China's unique practices. Recent research on health and sustainability integrates five key systems: sustainability, activity, productivity, development, and innovation, drawing expertise from medicine, economics, sociology, and data science. In 2024, the institute began studies on new quality productivity in biomedicine, and this postdoctoral role is specifically designed to advance global health and sustainable development through these efforts.

II. Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct research on "National Development Dynamics – Global Health and Sustainable Development" under the guidance of a supervisor.
  • Undertake policy research, academic tasks, and other assignments as required by the institute.

III. Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess Chinese nationality without foreign permanent residency.
  • Uphold national policies and laws, demonstrate academic excellence, and have no disciplinary violations.
  • Hold a Ph.D. obtained within the last three years or be a pending graduate (defense passed) from a relevant discipline.
  • Be under 35 years old.
  • Have published two high-quality papers as a first or co-first author. Experience in policy advisory is preferred.
  • Possess strong theoretical and empirical research skills; quantitative or computational modeling ability is preferred.
  • Priority will be given to majors in political science, economics, public administration, or closely related fields.
  • Be able to work full-time and on-site at Fudan University’s Think Tank Building (No. 220 Handan Road, Shanghai).

IV. Benefits

  • Salary and benefits will align with national and Fudan University standards, with research startup funding provided.
  • Housing and residency support will be managed according to university policies.
  • Eligible candidates may apply for faculty positions or Shanghai’s "Super Postdoctoral Program," which offers a pre-tax salary of 260,000–300,000 RMB per year. Note that Super Postdoc eligibility requires a Ph.D. from a top global university or discipline, along with outstanding research achievements.
