Job Description

Introduction to the Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR), Fudan University

Established in 2019, the Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR) at Fudan University ( http://itbr.fudan.edu.cn/ ) operates as an independent research institution. It was founded upon the robust foundations of Shanghai Medical College, the National Key Laboratory of Brain Function and Brain Diseases, and the Ministry of Education's Frontiers Science Center of Brain Science. Academician Wang Yizheng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences currently serves as its director. The ITBR actively participates in Shanghai’s high-level local university development plan and implements academic special zone policies, which apply to both talent recruitment and operational management. Adopting internationally aligned management and operational mechanisms, the institute's core mission is to develop cutting-edge interdisciplinary technologies and advance translational research in brain science, thereby providing a high-level platform for both basic and applied brain science research.

Research Fields

  • Basic Research: ITBR aims to elucidate neural signal processing mechanisms, brain structural and functional development and plasticity, neural circuit analysis and regulation, mechanisms of brain diseases, and neural intervention strategies.
  • Translational Research: By integrating brain science with medicine and engineering, the institute establishes interdisciplinary platforms to address national strategic needs. It focuses on advancing brain science technologies for applications in brain function regulation, disease diagnosis and treatment, brain-computer interfaces, artificial intelligence, and more.

Achievements

Since its establishment, ITBR has achieved significant milestones:

  • Recruited 17 national-level talents and formed a Shanghai key innovation team focused on "Mechanisms and Interventions of Innate Behaviors and Their Disorders."
  • Initiated over 200 research projects, including 10 under the prestigious China Brain Project, with total funding exceeding 200 million yuan.
  • Published nearly 70 high-impact papers in prestigious journals such as Cell, Nature, and Neuron.
  • Secured patents in critical areas like gene editing, brain organoids, multiphoton imaging, and brain-computer interfaces.
  • Established a robust postdoctoral program with over 30 active researchers, 80% of whom received national or municipal talent support.
  • Launched the "Neuroscience and Transformation" discipline, training over 180 graduate students.
  • Co-developed the National Key Laboratory of Brain Function and Brain Diseases and the Ministry of Education’s Brain Science Frontier Center.
  • Further enhances its research capabilities with advanced equipment and animal platforms supported by dedicated technical staff.

Talent Recruitment

ITBR actively attracts outstanding global talent, currently hosting 31 independent research groups. Detailed information for each group is available on the official website:
