Job Description

Fang Xue'en, a distinguished male Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Fudan University, holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology from Fudan University, obtained in 2012. He completed postdoctoral research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 2012 to 2013 before joining Fudan University's Chemistry Department in March 2014 through their talent introduction program. Dr. Fang is a "Changjiang Scholar" Professor, jointly appointed by the Ministry of Education and enterprises, and has been selected for the National High-level Talent Youth Program. His primary focus lies in the teaching, research, and industrial-academic-research collaboration and transformation within the field of micro-nano clinical chemistry.

The accelerating pace of global climate change, the continuous expansion of human activities, and frequent cross-species pathogen transmissions are steadily increasing the risk of global pandemics caused by novel pathogens. In this context, achieving rapid, on-site measurement of pathogen nucleic acids is not only a current hot topic in basic research but also a vital tool in combating pathogens, crucial for public health, social stability, and national strategic security.

Professor Fang has either led or participated in numerous significant projects, including major national research instrument development projects (21427806), key national R&D projects (2017YFA0205100), and the Youth Fund Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (21505024). He has published over 60 international academic papers in top journals such as Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Small, Chemical Communications, and Analytical Chemistry. Many of these articles have been featured as cover articles in journals like Chemical Communications and Lab on a Chip, and his work has accumulated over 1,500 citations. Dr. Fang also serves as a reviewer for prestigious journals, including Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Protocols, and Analytical Chemistry. As a lead inventor, he holds more than 60 national invention patents and 3 international patents. His innovations earned him the Silver Award at the 48th Geneva International Invention Exhibition. He successfully spearheaded the approval of 5 Class III nucleic acid diagnostic reagent registration certificates from the National Medical Products Administration and the transformation of 2 immune microfluidic chips. As the primary inventor, he completed patent technology transformations valued at 16.3023 million yuan.

Beyond his research, Professor Fang contributes significantly to various professional organizations and education. He serves as a director of the China Instrumentation and Metering Association and is a member of the Nucleic Acid Detection Working Group (SAC/TC387/WG4) of the National Biochemical Detection Standardization Committee. He co-authored the microfluidics chapter in the English monograph Microfluidic Diagnostics. At Fudan University, he is responsible for teaching three undergraduate courses: "Theoretical and Experimental General Chemistry" (a Shanghai-level excellent course), "Microfluidic Life Analysis," and "Chip Laboratory" (a university-wide innovation and entrepreneurship course), emphasizing interdisciplinary medical-engineering education and talent development. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Shanghai Young Science and Technology Innovation Award, the Third Prize of Shanghai Higher Education Students' Invention and Creation, and the Silver Award of the Seventh National Entrepreneurship Competition of the Challenge Cup.
