Beijing Sport University (BSU) was founded in 1953 as the Central Institute of Physical Education. It was renamed Beijing Institute of Physical Education in 1956 and officially became Beijing Sport University in 1993. As a national key university, a key university under China's "Project 211", and a member of the first batch and the new round of China's "Double First-Class" Initiative, BSU boasts a glorious educational history, profound cultural heritage, and solid academic foundation, enjoying a high reputation both at home and abroad. Affiliated to the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC), the university is located on Xinxing Road, Haidian District, Beijing, covering an area of 755,000 square meters with a total building area of approximately 460,000 square meters and nearly 100 indoor and outdoor training venues.

BSU currently comprises 4 faculties: the Faculty of Physical Education and Health, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Olympic Studies, and the Faculty of Sports Engineering.

The Faculty of Physical Education and Health includes 7 schools such as the School of Education and the School of Psychology;

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences consists of 7 schools including the School of Marxism and the School of Management;

The Faculty of Olympic Studies encompasses 8 schools/institutes such as the School of Competitive Sports and the China Football School;

The Faculty of Sports Engineering houses the School of Sports Engineering (China Sports Big Data Center).

Additionally, BSU is home to the Party School of GASC, the GASC Cadre Training Center, the GASC Coaches College, and the China Olympic Academy.

 

I. Admission Programs

1. Degree Programs

(1) Undergraduate Program

BSU offers 20 undergraduate programs for international students. The undergraduate program duration is 4 years, with courses taught in Chinese. Students who complete the required curriculum, pass all examinations, and successfully defend their graduation thesis will be awarded a Graduation Certificate. Those who meet the requirements for a bachelor's degree will be conferred a Bachelor's Degree Certificate.

(2) Master's Program

BSU provides 13 master's programs for international applicants. The study duration for academic master's degree students is 3 years, while for professional master's degree students (International Chinese Education program), it is 2 years. All courses are taught in Chinese. Students who fulfill the training plan, pass the thesis review and defense will be awarded a Master's Graduation Certificate and a Master's Degree Certificate.

(3) Doctoral Program

BSU offers 7 doctoral programs for international applicants. The study duration for doctoral students is 4 years, with all courses taught in Chinese. Students who complete the training plan, pass the thesis review and defense will be awarded a Doctoral Graduation Certificate and a Doctoral Degree Certificate.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Hold a valid foreign passport and be a non-Chinese citizen, complying with relevant regulations such as the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Regulating the Admission of International Students by Higher Education Institutions in China" (Jiaowai Han2020No.12).

2. Be in good physical and mental health, meeting the medical examination requirements for applying for a Chinese visa or residence permit and the specific requirements of the applied program. The medical examination standards shall refer to the "Guidelines for Physical Examination Work for College Enrollment".

3. Have no disciplinary records, no public security penalties, no criminal records or offenses; be friendly to China, have good conduct, abide by Chinese laws, university rules and regulations, and respect Chinese customs and traditions.

4. For undergraduate applicants: aged between 18 and 30 (calculated as of September 1 of the enrollment year), in good health, and holding an educational background equivalent to or higher than a Chinese high school graduation.

5. For undergraduate applicants: Chinese proficiency shall reach HSK Level 4 (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, Chinese Proficiency Test) or above. Additionally, applicants must take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)" organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) under the Ministry of Education and obtain a valid score. For specific test subjects, please refer to the major catalog.

6. For master's program applicants: hold a bachelor's degree; for doctoral program applicants: hold a master's degree.

7. For master's and doctoral program applicants: Chinese proficiency shall reach HSK Level 5 or above. Those who obtained a degree from a Chinese university with Chinese as the teaching language are exempted from providing HSK certificates.

Application Documents:

Nationality Certification Documents:

(1) Copy of the applicant's passport information page (valid until after September 30, 2026).

(2) For applicants who were previously Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality:a. Proof of cancellation of original Chinese household registration and renunciation of Chinese nationality issued before April 30, 2022.b. Copies of passport pages with entry and exit stamps to/from China from April 30, 2022 to the application date.c. Records of actual residence abroad for more than 2 years from April 30, 2022 to the application date (9 months of actual residence abroad in a year shall be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

(3) For applicants whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens:a. Proof of acquiring foreign nationality at birth or later.b. Nationality or household registration certificates (passport or ID card) of both parents.c. If the applicant acquired foreign nationality at birth and one or both parents are Chinese citizens with permanent residency abroad: provide the parents' permanent residency certificates. If one or both parents are Chinese citizens without permanent residency abroad: provide proof of the applicant's renunciation of Chinese nationality.

(4) Applicants with a valid Chinese visa: provide a copy of the recent Chinese visa page. Applicants currently in China: provide a copy of the valid foreigner residence permit.

Educational Qualification Documents:

(1) For undergraduate applicants: provide high school graduation certificate or higher education diploma (graduating students may submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their high school first).

(2) For master's and doctoral applicants: provide all degree certificates obtained from undergraduate studies and above. Graduating students may submit a pre-graduation certificate (degree certificate must be obtained before enrollment).

Note: Master's/PhD freshmen of the 2026 intake must obtain a bachelor's or master's degree recognized by the Chinese government (for domestic universities) or the "Foreign Academic Degree Certification Certificate" issued by the Center for International Education Exchange (CIEE, https://zwfw.cscse.edu.cn/) (for overseas universities) before the registration date. Otherwise, the admission qualification will be revoked.

Academic Transcripts:

(1) For undergraduate applicants:a. High school transcripts (including all courses taken during high school); or national/universal high school graduation examination or university entrance examination scores (e.g., SAT/ACT/IB/A-level/UEC, etc.).b. Transcripts of the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)" organized by the Ministry of Education. For specific test subjects, please refer to the major catalog. Applicants can visit the official CSCA website (https://www.csca.cn) for test schedules and content.

(2) For master's applicants: submit complete undergraduate transcripts.

(3) For doctoral applicants: submit complete undergraduate and master's transcripts.

Language Proficiency Certificates:

(1) Chinese Proficiency Certificate (Mandatory):a. Undergraduate applicants: HSK Level 4 transcript or other equivalent Chinese proficiency certificates.b. Master's and doctoral applicants: HSK Level 5 transcript or other equivalent Chinese proficiency certificates.

(2) English Proficiency Certificate (Optional for non-English native speakers):a. IELTS score of 6.0 or above.b. TOEFL score of 90 or above.

Research Proposal:

Master's applicants: submit a Chinese research proposal of no less than 800 words.

Doctoral applicants: submit a Chinese research experience and proposal of no less than 1,500 words.

Undergraduate applicants: optional.

Recommendation Letters:

Master's and doctoral applicants: submit 2 original recommendation letters from associate professors or above, or senior professionals in relevant fields.

Undergraduate applicants: optional.

Original Certificate of No Criminal Record (Issued within 6 months):

(1) Applicants currently in China: issued by the local exit-entry administration or public security bureau.

(2) Applicants currently outside China: issued by the national public security authority of their home country.

2. Non-Degree Programs

(1) Chinese Language Program

BSU offers Chinese language programs at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels, with comprehensive course settings. The programs focus on developing students' Chinese communication skills, adopting level-based teaching for students with different Chinese proficiency. The curriculum is diverse and flexible, complemented by rich Chinese cultural practice activities to help students experience Chinese culture in real linguistic contexts.

The study duration is one semester or one year. Students who pass all courses will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Core Courses: Oral Chinese, Listening Comprehension, Comprehensive Chinese, Extensive Reading, Newspaper Reading, Writing, Chinese Culture, Chinese Grammar, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, etc.

(2) Martial Arts and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Health Preservation Programs

BSU offers year-round professional non-degree programs, including Martial Arts, Sports Health Qigong, Sanda (Chinese Kickboxing), TCM Massage, and Sports Rehabilitation. The study duration is one semester or one year. Students who pass all courses will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Eligibility Requirements:

Hold a high school diploma, aged between 18 and 55.

Hold a valid foreign passport and be a non-Chinese citizen, complying with relevant regulations such as the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Regulating the Admission of International Students by Higher Education Institutions in China" (Jiaowai Han2020No.12).

Be in good physical and mental health, meeting the medical examination requirements for applying for a Chinese visa or residence permit and the specific requirements of the applied program, ensuring normal study and life in China.

II. Application Method and Timeline

International students must apply online. Applicants should log in to https://ims.bsu.edu.cn/EEdepot.aspx during the application period to complete the registration and upload the required documents as instructed.

Spring Intake (March enrollment): Application period: December 1, 2025 – January 27, 2026 (for non-degree programs only).

Autumn Intake (September enrollment): Application period: December 1, 2025 – June 1, 2026.

 

III. Scholarship Types

Chinese Government Scholarship

Applications are accepted by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), Chinese embassies/consulates abroad, or relevant institutions. These institutions submit applicant information to BSU for admission review, and the admission results are fed back accordingly. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

Organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), including application, examination, and review. Qualified applicants will be recommended to BSU for further review and admission. For detailed application procedures, visit: http://cis.chinese.cn. The final admission result is subject to the announcement by CLEC.

Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students

Applicants apply directly to BSU. After reviewing the application materials, BSU will evaluate candidates in accordance with the requirements and relevant measures of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education.

BSU "Belt and Road" Sports Talents Scholarship

Applicants apply directly to BSU, with the application period coinciding with the admission application period. After receiving the application materials, BSU will evaluate candidates in accordance with the BSU Scholarship Review Measures.

IV. Fee Structure

1. Tuition Fees

Undergraduate: 25,000 – 28,000 RMB/academic year

Master's: 30,000 – 34,000 RMB/academic year

Doctoral: 40,000 – 45,000 RMB/academic year

Non-degree (Language/Martial Arts/TCM): 10,000 RMB/semester; 20,000 RMB/year

2. Accommodation Fees

Double room: 70 RMB/person/day

Single room: 120 RMB/person/day

3. Other Fees

Medical Insurance: Approximately 800 RMB/person/academic year

Visa Fee: Approximately 500 RMB

Medical Examination Fee: Approximately 400 RMB

 

V. Admission Process

The International College of Education and Exchange of BSU is fully responsible for international student admission. The admission process includes online application, online document review, and online consultation, combining document evaluation with online video interviews. An admission committee will be established, consisting of representatives from the International College of Education and Exchange, Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, and other relevant departments and schools. The specific process is as follows:

1. Acceptance and review of application materials (December 2025 – June 2026)

2. Organization of online video interviews (Specific assessment time and plan will be notified via email/WeChat)

3. Determination of admission results based on interview performance and document review ranking (Late June 2026)

4. Announcement of admission results (Late June – Early July 2026)

5. Printing and preparation of the Admission Notice and "Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China" (Form JW201/JW202/DQ), followed by submission to relevant departments for approval and signature (Early July 2026)

6. Mailing of admission documents (Mid-July 2026)

7. Completion of admission process (August 2026)

 

VI. Admission and Registration

1. Admission

Applicants who pass both document review and interview will be notified via email/WeChat in July 2026. Those who fail either stage will not be admitted.

Admitted students will receive the Admission Notice, "Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China" (Form JW201/JW202/DQ), and other relevant admission documents. (Admitted students must apply for an X1 or X2 student visa at the Chinese embassy/consulate in their home country with the Admission Notice and Form JW201/JW202/DQ.)

2. Registration

New students must register at BSU on the date specified in the Admission Notice. Counselors from each school will contact students via email before the start of the semester; please check your email regularly. At registration, students must present the original Admission Notice, Form JW201/JW202/DQ, passport, original application documents and notarized translations. Those who have undergone a medical examination in their home country must bring all original medical examination documents.

3. Re-Examination

Upon registration, the relevant school will re-examine the applicant's documents. If any discrepancies are found between the Admission Notice, applicant information, or other certificates and the actual situation, or if fraudulent practices, irregularities, or dual enrollment are identified, BSU reserves the right to revoke the admission qualification.

Visa Information

Admitted students must apply for a student visa at the Chinese embassy/consulate with the Admission Notice and Form JW201/JW202/DQ. Those studying for more than 180 days must apply for an X1 visa and convert it to a student residence permit at the International College of Education and Exchange of BSU within 30 days of arrival in China. Those studying for less than 180 days may apply for an X2 visa.

Medical Insurance

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, all international students must purchase medical insurance in China. Students may purchase qualified medical insurance in their home country or at the International College of Education and Exchange of BSU on the registration day. Students who fail to purchase medical insurance as required will not be allowed to register.
