Nanjing University Postdoctoral Position Recruitment Information: Yuxiu Young Scholars Program (Long-term Valid)

To accelerate the construction of a world-class university, strengthen the introduction and cultivation of young talent, focus on optimizing the structure of the talent team, and vigorously improve the quality of young teachers, Nanjing University has established the "Yuxiu Young Scholars" program funding projects in key disciplines. This initiative is in accordance with the "Implementation Measures of the 'Yuxiu Young Scholars Program'" of Nanjing University. The program recruits doctoral graduates from all over the world who are engaged in original research in interdisciplinary or cutting-edge fields to work at the university.

一．Content of the plan

1. The "Yuxiu Young Scholars Program" at Nanjing University aims to cultivate and foster interdisciplinary and cutting-edge talents who are globally competitive and capable of taking on significant responsibilities. This is achieved through academic interdisciplinary or original research funding provided by the Yuxiu Scholar program. The program is currently recruiting postdoctoral researchers from around the world who are interested in engaging in original research within interdisciplinary or frontier fields.
2. Salary Standard: The annual salary ranges from 240,000 to 600,000 RMB, implemented as a "basic annual salary + incentive annual salary" model. The basic annual salary is fully funded by the university, while the incentive annual salary is jointly borne by the cooperative supervisor and the university. General Applicant's Basic Annual Salary: Applicants holding a doctoral degree from a university ranked among the top 30 globally, or whose doctoral discipline is ranked among the top 30 worldwide, will receive a basic annual salary of 300,000 RMB per year. Applicants from universities ranked among the world's top 100, or whose discipline is ranked among the top 100, will receive a basic annual salary of 270,000 RMB per year. Other applicants will receive a basic annual salary of 240,000 RMB per year. Basic Annual Salary for National Postdoctoral Program Selectees: For postdoctoral fellows funded by the National Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program and the Postdoctoral International Exchange Program who are also selected as Yuxiu Young Scholars, the university will provide an additional basic annual salary of 120,000 RMB per year on top of the national annual salary during the national plan funding period. After the national plan subsidy period concludes, the basic annual salary will revert to the general applicant's standard. Incentive Annual Salary for Outstanding Candidates: For particularly outstanding personnel, in addition to the aforementioned basic annual salary, the co-supervisor can apply to the university for a matching incentive salary at a 1:1 ratio. The total annual salary can reach up to 600,000 RMB.
3. Scientific Research Start-up Fee: Selected candidates will receive a basic scientific research start-up fee of 50,000 RMB per person upon joining the university. After commencing work, individuals can apply for the university's competitive scientific research project funding, ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 RMB.
4. Employment Management: Each employment period is three years. If the annual assessments and the employment assessment during the first employment period are rated as qualified or above, the employment period can be renewed for one additional period. The total employment period shall not exceed six years.
5. In 2020, approximately 50 individuals will be recruited from around the world.
6. For outstanding Yuxiu Young Scholars, the university will select the best candidates to transition into quasi-permanent positions.

二．Training and management

1. In principle, Yuxiu Young Scholars shall implement joint guidance, generally requiring a minimum of two instructors. The first supervisor acts as a co-supervisor for the postdoctoral fellow; this co-supervisor is typically determined through consultation and invitation by the primary supervisor. The management of positions and hired personnel is primarily handled by the cooperative tutor and their department, who are also responsible for relevant personnel procedures. For interdisciplinary research positions, supervisors are, in principle, required to provide joint guidance across faculties and first-level disciplines.

2. Yuxiu Young Scholars will engage in interdisciplinary or original research under the joint guidance of their co-supervisors. The departments of these co-supervisors are responsible for creating favorable conditions for their research. Scientific research outcomes produced by jointly supervised Yuxiu Young Scholars will be shared among all faculties and departments involved in the joint supervision. The Yuxiu Postdoctoral College should generally be listed as a funding unit.

3. In addition to participating in the university's annual assessment, funded Yuxiu Young Scholars must also undergo a mid-term assessment and an employment assessment organized by the Postdoctoral College and the project team. Those who pass both the annual and mid-term assessments will be considered qualified. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal from the subsidy plan and termination of employment.

三．Application requirements

1. Generally not more than 35 years old, with good moral character and good health.

2. The applicant should not have obtained a doctoral degree within 3 years. Meet the relevant national requirements for postdoctoral recruitment. Excellent returning Ph.D. or foreign Ph.D. under the same conditions is preferred.

3. The world ranking of the applicant's doctoral school or the global ranking of the subject in which the applicant obtained his/her doctoral degree is based on the latest Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities, Times Higher Education World University Ranking, QS World University Rankings, and U. S. News & World Report of that year.

4. The applicant should independently contact the relevant postdoctoral research station of Nanjing University or the teachers of related disciplines, and obtain the formal recommendation of the cooperative supervisor and department.

5. In principle, it is required to work within 6 months after receiving the funding, and be able to ensure full-time on-the-job research work.

6. Outstanding research results should have been achieved in the application of this project.

7. Applicants from non-English speaking countries should have good listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Chinese or English.

8. The program does not accept the declaration of in-service personnel. Applicants are required to work full-time at Nanjing University for research during the funding period.

四．Set up for post-doctoral research mobile stations or disciplines

1. In 2020, it will be the first recruitment of the Yuxiu Young Scholars Program, and the first recruitment will be carried out on the pilot of key disciplines (see Annex 2 for the disciplines that can be declared). There is no restriction on cooperative disciplines.

2. There are 3 Yuxiu posts for each key discipline. This post setting is limited to the departments of the above-mentioned disciplines, and other research institutions all rely on the departments of the disciplines to declare, and no separate posts are set up or assigned separately. In the later stage, the position setting will be adjusted according to the progress.

3. Please browse the website of the department to inquire about the information of the relevant instructor, and can consult the relevant information with the contact person of the department.

4. The website of the personnel department can provide recruitment advertising services for departments or cooperative tutors.

五．Application and selection procedures

1. Individual application

Applicants are requested to contact their co-supervisor, complete the application form, prepare electronic scanned copies of the main certification materials, and submit physical application materials to the department where the postdoctoral mobile station is located, all between May 15 and June 15, 2020.

The main supporting materials include:

(1) A copy of a valid ID card (a copy of a passport submitted by a foreigner);

(2) Doctoral degree certificate. If the fresh doctoral graduates have not yet defended, they can apply first and provide the doctoral degree certificate when going through the procedures for working at the university;

(3) Proof of main scientific research work and academic achievements in the "Application Form";

(4) Proof of the global ranking of the doctoral school or the discipline to which the doctoral degree belongs;

(5) Applicants who have obtained a doctorate degree from abroad, overseas or Chinese-foreign cooperative schools shall provide the Certificate of Degree and Academic Qualification issued by the Ministry of Education;

(6) The "Postdoctoral Researcher Entry Review Form" which can be downloaded from the official website of the National Postdoctoral Entry and Exit Station.

2. Review and recommendation of faculties and departments

The post-establishment unit will review the application materials, fill in the unit recommendation in the paper "Application Form", and submit it to Yuxiu Postdoctoral College.
