"WorldSpeaking" --- Career Development and Personal Growth in a Cross-Cultural Context
I. Event Information
Date: November 22, 2025
Expected Participants: 4-5 international students in China of diverse nationalities
Time: 15:00
Location: Room 1208, Block B, Yuhui Building, Haidian District, Beijing
II. Core Objectives
This event focuses on the career development and personal growth needs of international students. Using cross-cultural experiences as a foundation, it aims to explore how to translate the experiences, skills, and insights gained from studying and living in China into global workplace competitiveness and personal influence, facilitating a smooth transition from "campus learning" to "career launch."
III. Event Flow and Core Topics
(I) Personal Branding: Telling Your Cross-Cultural Story
"This Is How I 'Get Seen'"
l Have you shared your cross-cultural life on social media platforms like TikTok, Xiaohongshu, or Bilibili? If so, what type of content do you typically enjoy sharing?
"From Sharing to Influence"
l What specific benefits has creating and sharing cross-cultural content brought to your personal growth (e.g., communication skills, depth of thought) or professional opportunities (e.g., making new connections, gaining visibility)?
(II) Career Starting Line: Workplace "Rules" at Home and Abroad
Whether or not you have had internship or work experience in China, please share your situation:
l If you have experience: How did you find information about internships/jobs? What challenges or interesting situations related to cultural differences did you encounter during interviews or workplace communication?
l If you have no experience yet: How are you currently gathering information about internships/jobs in China? What confusions have you faced during your preparation (e.g., regarding job requirements, application processes)? Or, have you heard any relevant experiences from peers that you'd like to share?
"A Look at Workplace Culture: Differences I've Observed Between China and Abroad"
l Based on your understanding (regardless of direct work experience), compare your home country and China in terms of recruitment processes (e.g., resume submission, test/interview stages), workplace etiquette (e.g., forms of address, communication styles, superior-subordinate relationships), work pace, and team atmosphere. What are the most significant differences you have observed or heard about? You can share your personal feelings, or discuss situations you've learned about from friends, online sources, or other materials.
"The International Student Identity: 'Advantages' and 'Minor Challenges' on the Job Hunt"
l From an international student's perspective, what unique advantages do you think the "international student" identity might bring when seeking internships or jobs in China in the future (e.g., cross-cultural communication skills, diverse perspectives)? At the same time, are you concerned about potential challenges this identity might pose (e.g., visa issues, unfamiliarity with local workplace norms)? Whether you have job-hunting experience or not, please share your thoughts or relevant cases you've heard about from others.
(III) Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Grafting Cross-Cultural Inspiration
"Where My Startup Ideas Come From"
l Do you have any ideas or thoughts about starting a business in China or your home country? Was this idea inspired by your observations or life experiences in China?
"Testing the 'China Model' Across Borders"
l Share one "China model" (e.g., in e-commerce, social apps, the sharing economy) that has impressed you. Do you think this model could be replicated or adapted in your country? What localization adjustments would be necessary?
(IV) Future Skills: Equipping Yourself for a Globalized Era
"The 'Passport' Beyond Language"
l Besides language skills, what abilities do you think are most crucial for the future development of international students in a globalized world?
"The Result of My 'China Training'"
l Share one "soft skill" (e.g., adaptability, cross-cultural teamwork, problem-solving) that you have significantly improved during your time in China through daily life or studies, and provide a specific example.
